McGregor

The City of McGregor is located in Clayton County in northeast Iowa. The Mississippi River borders the east side of the town with steep bluffs surrounding the community on the north, west and south sides which gives McGregor its nickname, “The Pocket City."

McGregor is located on State Highway 76, which becomes Main Street as it passes through the national register listed Commercial Historic District with its many restored 19th-century buildings, specialty shops, restaurants and bars. Highway 76 connects both the north and west sides of town with U. S. Highway 18. State Highway 76 is also part of The Great River Road, a national scenic byway that winds 326 miles through Iowa, reaching a total of 3,000 miles as it stretches from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico.

McGregor is also an endpoint of the River Bluffs Scenic Byway, a 109-mile trip that winds through the bluff country in Clayton and Fayette counties.

McGregor is located just south of the community of Marquette, established initially as North McGregor, and across the river from Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. Located in the Driftless Area, the community is also near Pikes Peak State Park, Effigy Mounds National Monument, and the Mississippi River, you'll find many ways to enjoy nature in McGregor.
