Rural Heritage Museum, Elkader, is located in the Elkader City Park, along High Street SE, just off the Highway 13 by-pass. The museum is housed in a restored sales barn and has a collection of rural artifacts representing the work and lives of those living in the Midwest since the 1850's. Some items at the George Maier Rural Heritage Center include a threshing machine, an old Victrola, a collection of old calendars that you won't forget, Clayton County country school clocks, World War 2 photos, and an arrowhead collection. See how the 20th century housewife cooked, cleaned her house, and bathed her children. Also see how her husband farmed or ran the general store. George is always eager to talk about his collection and share some of his stories. It is a visit that you will not forget!
