Federal Disaster Relief:
If and when a Presidential Declaration of disaster is made, Upper Explorerland is available to
provide technical assistance to communities
applying for federal funds. Please contact us with any questions at

After a Presidential Declaration is declared, toll free numbers will be
established by FEMA and the Small Business Administration. FEMA offers
Public Assistance for community infrastructure damaged by the flood and
Individual Assistance for individuals with property damage related to the flood. The Small Business Administration makes loans to businesses
and individuals with damage related to the flood. |
State Disaster Relief:
A Governor's Emergency Proclamation allows local governments to utilize
state resources at no cost.
Residents of these counties who meet certain income guidelines can apply
for assistance under Iowa's Individual Disaster Assistance program.
Individuals with household incomes up to 130 percent of federal poverty
guidelines may apply for a grant of up to $3,300 to assist with recovery
from storm damage.
The grant application and step-by-step instructions on how to fill it
out are found on the front page of the Department of Human Services Web
site: http://dhs.iowa.gov/ or by email

Unemployment:
Disaster Unemployment assistance is available to workers who are displaced due to recent disasters. Workers should apply through their local workforce development office:

SBA Loans:
If and when your county receives Federal Designation of Disaster, individuals and businesses may qualify for an SBA loan. Business loans are up to $1.5 million and are designed to cover actual costs incurred to re-open their business. The loans are 4 - 8% interest and must be approved by showing ability to repay and some collateral for the loans.
