One of the earliest homes in the community, built in 1855 by Ernest and Henry Carter. Open weekends Memorial Day to Labor Day or by appointment.

Stroll, picnic, or play in our lovely 3 acre shaded city park near the Turkey River. The city pool, playground equipment, ball fields, tennis, volleyball and horseshoe courts, six open shelters, picnic tables and grills are located in the park. Open from April-November, the Elkader City Park is also a great place to camp!

Elkader Country Club & Golf Course

This nine-hole course in a beautiful valley at the edge of Elkader is well groomed and features a unique club house created from a redesigned barn, with a large banquet room/dance floor on the upper story. Open to the public.

The beautifully renovated Elkader Opera House seats 455, with wonderful natural acoustics as well as great sight lines from almost every seat. Theatergoers will delight in the wide variety of entertainment this unique setting has to offer. Built in 1903, the opera house has a rich cultural hertiage and hosts a variety of public functions each year.

Upon his return from World War II duty in 1945, George Maier began fulfilling a dream to collect artifacts to chronicle the development of life in the rural Midwest and to someday display them in a regional hertiage musuem. Be sure to stop by for a tour and view the thousands of artifacts.

Elkader is home to nine National Registry of Historical Places, including the Courthouse, Keystone Arch Bridge, Motor Mill, and Lover's Leap.

Named after Thomas Osborne, who originally occupied the sight in 1865, the Osborne Welcome Center serves as the historical site for the small town of Osborne, as well as a nature learning center for young and old.

The Turkey River is the centerpiece of Elkader's scenic beauty. It is also a wonderful recreational resource for residents and visitors. It offers great fishing and tubing and is a popular family canoeing stream.
