RECREATION IN CLAYTON
CAMPING
Whether you like roughin' it on the sand bars of the Mississippi or prefer the luxury of electricty during your camping excursion, you can easily find both in Clayton. The nearby Pike's Peak State provides campers with both electrical and non-electrical campsites, as well as hiking trails and amazing views of the Mississippi. Otherwise, take your pick of sandbars on the river. There are plenty to chose from!
HUNTING AND FISHING

Turkey, deer, waterfowl, and pheasant hunting on state designated public hunting areas is available at appropriate times throughout the year. Information on public hunting areas and state public regulations can be found on the Iowa DNR website.

Fishing is a popular past-time throughout the year in Clayton County. Streams, ponds, and rivers are plentiful, and well-stocked with fish, especially trout. For a full list of good fishing holes, please visit our fishing page.

STATE, & NATIONAL PARKS

When visiting Clayton, be sure to check out Pike's Peak State Park. The park is home to the highest bluff on the Mississippi and features gorgeous views yearound. Be sure to check out Bridal Veil Falls, the Point Ann hiking trail, and Look Out Point.

If you're willing to travel a bit further down the spectacular "Great River Road," you'll discover Effigy Mounds National Monument, home to over 200 American Indian ceremonial burial mounds. Visitors have the opportunity to take in the unique sites, and learn about the people who built them.
